With an interdisciplinary reach to their academic research and practices in dance and writing, in Partnering, A Solo, Alana Gerecke works with an expanded notion of collaboration to consider how interpersonal and material encounters sediment in the body.
"My solo dance is scored around the everyday collaborations that coalesce into a singular entity, the self as amalgam. Grounding this movement study, I physically articulate the contours of past partners: the ledge of a sternum bone, the tug of an elbow hook, the surf of a rolling torso. I work to presence my kinaesthetic memories of partnering with a precise attention to movement initiation and trajectory. By drawing out the ensemble inside of the solo, I perform individual movement as intrinsically relational."
