The The Odd Volume is the first chapter of Hoi Dim Sum (Open Small Heart), a new solo that dance artist Ziyian Kwan will create and perform over the next two years. In this first draft for Interplay, Ziyian explores how to unsilence that which was previously unsaid. Her research is inspired by Rebecca Solnit’s The Mother of All Questions, Sara Ahmed’s Living a Feminist Life, and the melodic structure of Henry Purcell’s A Farewell and Dido and Aeneus. The Odd Volume is but one current work in which Ziyian seeks to unleash, embolden and empower a raw and elegant feminism.
