residency

Savage & Samuelle

Savage & Samuelle are hustle dancers with a background in street dance and freestyle. Sav is a prominent b.boy on unceded Coast Salish lands and Samuelle is from Tiohtià:ke, trained in freestyle forms including hip hop and waacking.

Since 2016, Sav & Sam have traveled the world studying and teaching hustle as both dance and life partners.

The residency at LoM will be dedicated to an environment of learning-by-commission under the direction of a mentor. Sav & Sam aspire to transpose their knowledge and skills in freestyle/partner-dance onto the stage. Such a task will require a suitable mentor, one who is versed in both street/club dance vernacular and traditionally recognized dance forms. S&S are excited to enlist Deanna Peters/Mutable Subject as their mentor.

Deanna will guide S&S into new potential, exposing them to innovative approaches to creative process and production. As the skill-building and -sharing gets underway, a public engagement component may take place, involving collaboration with sound and lightning designers.
